As part of an ongoing collaboration with a friend's Los Angeles-based urban apparel company, I helped design a series of 3D printed and machined rings. There were three main designs: one based on the company logo (The Incorporated), one based on the name of the campaign (Not Allowed), and one a creative rebirth of a “Jesus Piece”.
For the first 3D printed versions, we wanted to leave the rings raw, uncolored and unfinished, to more clearly convey the method in which they were produced. Future expansions of these designs will include color options.
The machined ring was inspired by Jesus pieces typically worn by hip-hop artists. After initial prototypes were 3D printed in assorted colors, the final version was machined from aluminum for cost considerations, then finished with a gold anodize to add a more luxurious feel.
