Food Technology Research & Development for Zume, Inc.
Project Length: Multiple Projects (2019-2020)
Focus Areas: Energy Systems, Acoustic Attenuation, Thermal Management, Tamper Evidence, Compostable Food Packaging
Materials: Confidential
This full-time role was as a Mechanical Engineer on the R&D Engineering team at Zume, a food technology company in the SF Bay Area. This team was made up of a small group of cross-functional engineers focusing on exploratory mechanical, electrical, and software challenges inherent to the company’s mission of building a more sustainable food supply chain.
I had two main projects while at Zume. The first focused on developing a green energy power system for Zume Mobile Kitchens, and handling the accompanying noise attenuation and thermal management concerns. The second project involved developing tamper-evident features for Zume’s compostable food packaging. Unfortunately, most project details are confidential in nature and cannot be fully discussed, nor images clearly shown.
For both projects I was the sole engineer, and was responsible for every aspect of development, including:
Initial Research & Concepts
CAD Design (Solidworks)
Mechanical/Thermal/Fluid Analysis (Ansys)
Component Selection & Procurement
Vendor Souring & Managment
Prototype Assembly & Testing
General Project Management
